Foundation laid for the top commercial vehicles show in the Asia-Pacific region

China Commercial Vehicles Show 2013 (CCVS) was grandly held from 30 October to 2 November at Wuhan International Expo Center. As the sole event of its kind at the national level in China, CCVS in its 2nd edition has emerged as the largest commercial vehicles exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region after its debut last year.

The show coincided with the steady rebound of Chinese commercial vehicles market after its two-year slide. Meanwhile, China’s commercial vehicle sector is at a critical juncture of transformation and upgrading. CCVS 2013 exhibited latest technologies and products in the industry, showcased future development trends and reflected preliminary results of industry-wide transformation and upgrading.

With the total exhibition area of about 80,000 square meters, CCVS 2013 was staged at exhibit halls A1-A3 and B1-B5, as Hall B5 was designated as dynamic demonstration area for exhibit vehicles and other seven exhibition halls as static display area. This year the show added two exhibition halls and approximately 20,000 square meters of space on the basis of the previous edition.

Nearly 500 exhibitors including truck, special purpose vehicles and spare parts manufacturers at home and abroad converged onsite, 40% jump over the last edition. Hubei-based companies specializing in finished vehicles or spare parts captured a big fraction of the exhibitors, an indication of the strong support provided to CCVS 2013 by auto industry players in Hubei Province led by Dongfeng Motor.

CCVS 2013 attracted over 20,000 professional visitors, domestic and international, spanning countries like Italy, Germany, Russia, India, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea and Malaysia. In the aspects of scale and sector influence, the show has established a firm foundation as the top commercial vehicles show in China and the leading one in the Asia-Pacific region.

Preliminary results of transformation and upgrading of China’s commercial vehicle industry at full display

330 vehicles were at display, a substantial increase over the previous edition; among them, no less than 10 truck chassis, the first domestically-designed concept car of special purpose vehicle, side-curtain vehicle, light van, tank truck and municipal and public sanitation vehicles made their debut. Parts & Accessories competed for the spotlight, as new-concept tailboard, traction base, electric axle, hydraulic lifter, lightweight-oil cylinder and wheel hub were the stars of the show, with pronounced breakthroughs in technological level and product class.

Exhibitors included FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng Motor, CNHTC, Foton Motor, Shaanxi Automobile Group, JAC Motors, Ankai Bus, Chang'an Automobile Group, Scania, Iveco, Gac Hino Motors, SAIC Iveco Hongyan and Jiangling Motors, along with truck and special purpose vehicle producers like CIMC Vehicles, Brilliance, Xinhongchang Special Vehicle Co., Ltd., Tri-Ring Group, China Space Sanjiang Group, Conglin Fruehauf Automobile, Guangdong Yuehai Motor Vehicle Co., Ltd, Wuhan Municipal Engineering Corporation, Forest River, Wuhan Speka Special Automobile, Xiao Long Auto and Pangda Automobile Trade Co., Ltd. Parts & Accessories lineup included such exhibitors as JOST, ContiTech, Hyva, BPW, ZF, Guangdong FUWA, Shenzhen Cadro, Shanghai Shenyi, Yinjiang Canvas P, GITI Tire, Alcoa Wheel Products, Yangzhou Qionghua, Yantai Future and Liangshan Shuipo, etc.

At CCVS 2013, Dongfeng Motor, the flagship auto maker of China, covered a single exhibition hall to demonstrate its commercial vehicle products. Xiangyang, Shiyan and Suizhou shared Hall A3, making it the showroom for Hubei’s R & D capacity and manufacturing prowess in truck and special purpose vehicles. Caidian District of Wuhan City took up Hall B4 to register its status as the emerging commercial vehicle manufacturing base in Hubei Province.

Concurrent activities enrich exhibition content and expand its influence

The organizer of CCVS 2013 in response to industry and exhibitor demands, along with IAA experience, made great efforts in planning and running concurrent activities, which were more substantive and attractive than the last edition. The main concurrent activities included China International Commercial Vehicle Summit, China Special Purpose Vehicle Industry Development International Forum, Logistic and Transportation Vehicle Summit, onsite vehicle dynamic demonstration and Sino-Sweden Special Purpose Vehicle Technical Exchange. These sideline events enriched CCVS’ content and substantially enhanced its stature and influence, rendering the event more appealing to exhibitors and visitors alike.

Meanwhile, the organizer of CCVS 2013 encouraged and supported exhibitors to hold press conferences and various technical exchange activities in conjunction with the event. Dongfeng and JAC unveiled key projects and corporate strategies on the occasion, while CNHTC, Scania, CIMC Vehicles, Xinhongchang and Cadro held press conferences; Caidian District People’s Government held signing ceremony for commercial vehicle cooperation program and press conference at Caidian pavilion.

Over 100 media outlets provide multidimensional and all-round coverage

CCVS 2013 received media’s great support and attention. Nearly 50 media outlets like Sohu, Sina, Tencent, Automotive Observe, Chinaspcar.com, cv.ce.cn, chinatruck.org set up their own booths at the exhibition; more than 100 media outlets like Peoples’ Daily, Economic Daily, China Daily, China Automotive News, China Industry News, China Communication News, Modern Logistics News, China Business News, Hubei Daily, Changjiang Daily, along with CCTV, Hubei TV, Wuhan TV, Guangdong TV and Hubei Chutian Traffic Radio provided comprehensive coverage on different stages. Numerous professional media and websites carried out special reports for CCVS 2013, interacting with audience on web platforms, which was conducive to increasing CCVS’ influence among industry professionals and users.

Stronger appeal among professional visitors like those in logistics industry

CCVS 2013 attracted total 25,793 visits mainly consisting of professional visitors at decision-making, R&D, purchasing, marketing and sales and after-sales service positions of truck, special purpose vehicle and Parts & Accessories companies both at home and abroad, professional visitors in the wide spectrum of transportation and logistics, construction, road and bridge construction and municipal public sanitation department, as well as professional visitors from commercial vehicle and industry-related research institutions, trade associations and higher education institutions.

It is worth mentioning that almost all exhibitors at CCVS 2013 reported the big surge of professional visitors from logistics-industry; in contrast to teeming Beijing and Shanghai auto shows, CCVS is more focused on professional visitors’ attendance.
